Xifeng county in Southwest China's Guizhou province collectively received 408,000 visits during the five-day May Day holiday, reaping a total tourism revenue of 196 million yuan ($29.4 million), according to Xifeng county bureau of culture, sports, radio, television and tourism on May 6.

This year, the county focused on creating themed travel routes based around health maintenance, intangible cultural heritage, and red historic sites.

Scenic spots and hotels in the region were guided by the local government to roll out plans to promote sales, for example, by issuing benefit coupons and undertaking marketing based on collaborations among enterprises.

To prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic during the holiday, authorities urged travel-related enterprises to ventilate and sterilize sealed buildings, public spaces and sanitary equipment. Measures such as body temperature testing, mask wearing and 1-meter distance spacing were strictly adopted at all sightseeing spots.

Visitors were also encouraged to book scenic sites tickets ahead of time, and avoid the rush hour as much as possible.
