Xifeng focuses on education, medical care, and drinking water security

Since the beginning of this year, Xiaozhaiba town in Xifeng county, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has promoted and improved its education, medical care, and drinking water security, and consolidated its achievements in poverty alleviation, according to local officials.

The town has formulated and implemented a dropout control program, and none of the poor students in the town have since dropped out of school during the compulsory education stage. In 2020, 132 students from poverty-stricken families were subsidized with a fund of 163,000 yuan ($ 24,930).

In 2020, the town achieved full coverage of poor people's insurance and subsidized insurance, and effectively solved the problem of poor people falling into poverty or returning to poverty due to illness.

Between January and October, the town completed 267 medical treatments for poor people, including chronic diseases, serious outpatient illnesses and hospitalizations. The incurred expenses were 1.17 million yuan, and 1.01 million yuan was reimbursed, with the reimbursement ratio reaching 95.47 percent. Meanwhile, a total of 115 patients with four types of chronic disease have been treated by family doctors, and 22 patients with 30 major diseases have been treated in designated medical institutions.

Additionally, the town has consolidated and improved its housing and water security. This year, the town has carried out three surveys of rural drinking water safety. To date, the town has created 18 small-scale centralized water supply projects, covering 15,800 people. The rural centralized water supply coverage rate is 99.98 percent, and the water supply security rate is over 95 percent. The drinking water of all poor households meets safety standards, and tap water is accessible for all households.
