Xishan town in Xifeng county, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has rolled out a series of measures to promote rural drinking water safety work, according to local officials.
The town has comprehensively investigated its drinking water sources, water intake distance and timing of key drinking water projects, and rapidly completed refinement work. At present, the safe drinking water quality improvement project has been completed and put into use in Shengli village, and Tuanyuanshan village is close to being fully completed. All poor households in Xishan town have achieved drinking water safety, including 159 households with a centralized water supply and 22 households with a distributed water supply, ensuring the drinking water safety of all of the 6,043 rural households in the town's 13 villages.
The town has promoted the consolidation and improvement part of its safe drinking water project. This saw the investment of 2 million yuan ($ 0.3 million), covered six administrative villages in the town, and benefited more than 4,800 people. Meanwhile, the town has completed drinking water safety supervision work for 175 poor households, achieving a drinking water safety rate of 100 percent, and full coverage of drinking water safety for poor households.
In addition, the town has won more than 50,000 yuan in maintenance, management and protection funds to complete the transformation and maintenance of more than 8,000 meters of rural centralized drinking water pipelines, install disinfection and water source protection facilities in 14 rural water sources, and erect water source protection signs.
Moreover, the town has completed the construction of three sewage treatment facilities, and the equipment has been installed and put into use.
