Xifeng focuses on medical security as part of poverty alleviation

Recently, Xifeng county in Southwest China's Guizhou province has been promoting poverty alleviation through medical security for the poor, according to local officials.

In 2020, all 7,162 rural poor people in Xifeng county have been completely insured, with a subsidized insurance amount of 1.26 million yuan ($186,228).

The county has implemented this medical insurance policy for the poor, strengthened its ability to support medical assistance and continuously improved its benefit levels. The threshold for critical illness insurance for the poor has been reduced by 50 percent, the proportion of large medical expenses reimbursement increased by five percentage points, and the annual maximum payment limit for critical illness insurance has been cancelled in the county.

Since 2020, Xifeng county has issued 797,400 yuan of medical assistance funds to 1,094 people. Between January and July, the county completed the basic medical insurance, critical illness insurance, and medical assistance one-stop immediate settlement hospitalizations for 1,094 poor people, and the reimbursement amount was 3.86 million yuan.

In addition, the county has increased publicity for medical insurance policies through various forms - including special training sessions, printing of publicity materials and establishment of publicity columns - to effectively increase the public's awareness of the medical insurance poverty alleviation policies.

At present, Xifeng county has produced more than 200 publicity columns, conducted 15 special training sessions, distributed more than 40,000 copies of materials, and the policy publicity has covered all poor households.
