Xifeng strengthens food safety supervision

Xifeng county -- located in Southwest China's Guizhou province -- recently strengthened its food safety supervision of nursing institutions for the aged, to ensure the food safety for the elderly, according to local officials.

They said that Xifeng county has organized special inspections of eldercare homes and beefed up food safety supervision at three old-age care institutions in the county, to improve food safety and prevent incidents, such as food poisoning.

The county's law enforcement personnel have conducted a comprehensive inspection of the health certificate of the canteen employees, their purchase channels of food and food raw materials, sterilization records and expired food.

Officials said the special inspection effectively raised awareness of food safety in the eldercare homes, prevented and controlled food safety accidents and guaranteed the physical health and food safety for the elderly.
