Southwestern China's Xifeng county has launched a series of measures that are designed to enhance its environment improvement work in the rural areas, according to local officials.
Officials said that with a dedicated fund of more than 90 million yuan ($12.79 million), Xifeng has constructed 10 garbage transfer stations and one county-level landfill in 10 towns and villages.
Meanwhile, the county launched a pilot program for refuse sorting in rural areas and established a garbage collection and transportation system.
Officials said the county built 22 new facilities for sewage disposal costing over 35 million yuan and completed the renovation of 2019 rural houses for 55 million yuan.
Additionally, the county invested 5.46 million yuan into the reconstruction and building of toilets.
Furthermore, Xifeng county has allocated more than 10 million yuan for environment improvement work in rural areas, including disposing 9,600 tons of rural domestic garbage and 2,000 tons of agricultural production refuse, as well as cleaning up 300 tons of mud.
Meanwhile, 1,838 households have had their courtyards reconstructed, 64 abandoned buildings and 14 residual walls have been removed and 7,943 new lighting fixtures have been installed in 70 villages.
Xifeng county has collected a total amount of 198 million yuan in 2019 for the improvement of the living environment in rural areas, officials said.
