Xifeng county in Guiyang, in southwestern Guizhou province, plans to promote the rosa roxbunghii -- also commonly known as the chestnut rose (a kind of pear) -- at the 2019 International Special Agricultural Products Fair which will open in Guiyang on Sept 25.
According to local media reports, in Gaodong village in Xifeng county, the locals have planted 2,326.9 hectares of rosa roxburghii, in the wake of major changes made to the local agricultural sector.
Local officials said that the Guizhou Yinli Agricultural Development Co Ltd was formed in 2016, enabling Gaodong village to establish a structure which involved a company, a village collective and farmers to plant rosa roxburghii.
Under the arrangement, farmers get a 70 percent share, the company has a 20 percent shares and the village collective gets a 10 percent share. At the same time, 30 percent of the village collective's and the company's sales revenue is distributed to the growers by means of a bonus.
Currently in Gaodong village, there are 1,407 farmers participating in the planting of rosa roxburghii, in 11 villager groups.
According to local officials, Xifeng county will make continued efforts to improve the added value of the product, as well as promote the development of acquisitions, sales, processing and other channels – boosting the healthy development of the rosa roxburghii industry.
At the same time, the local government will introduce new processing operations, extend the rosa roxburghii industrial chain and exploit more channels to increase locals' incomes, officials added.
