The second China Meteorological Tourism Industry Development Conference was held in Sanmenxia city, Henan province, on Dec 19.
Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, made an appearance as an emerging "meteorological tourism city" and took center stage, exemplifying the nation's meteorological tourism landscape and providing valuable insights for other cities.
The conference was jointly organized by the China Meteorological Service Association, Henan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Henan Provincial Meteorological Bureau, and Sanmenxia Municipal People's Government and featured the "China Meteorological Tourism Development Report (2023)."
Using 60 cities with distinctive meteorological tourism resources as samples, the report evaluated cities in five aspects: meteorological tourism resources, tourists and industrial economy, policy support and infrastructure, environmental protection and tourism sustainability, and climate suitability.
Guiyang, alongside Hangzhou, Qingdao, Guilin, Tongren, Yantai, Kunming, Dalian, Chengde, and Nanning, was recognized as a "meteorological tourism city" for 2023.
A highlight of the conference was the unveiling of the 2023 popular meteorological tourism cases online. Guiyang was recognized for its livable climate (avoiding summer heat, avoiding winter cold, and livability).
The case selection was based on six categories: China's natural oxygen bar tourism, climate livability (avoiding summer heat, avoiding winter cold, and livability), ice and snow tourism, meteorological landscapes, meteorological research travel camps, and meteorological landscape observation hotels.
The public actively engaged in an eight-day voting campaign, with over 240 million visits and 2.08 million votes. In the end, 50 cases stood out in the online voting.
