The 2023 Guizhou Ethnic Grand Gala took place in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Nov 18.
People of various ethnic groups from Guiyang, Zunyi, Anshun, Liupanshui, Tongren, Bijie, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture, Qiannan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture, and Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture gathered for a boundless display of ethnic culture.
The event consisted of two parts: a grand gala on the opening night and an ethnic carnival the following day. The Guizhou Ethnic Grand Carnival kicked off after the opening ceremony. Performances showcased the beauty of Guizhou's ethnic culture, depicting the province's profound cultural heritage and immersing the audience in its ethnic charm.
The ethnic carnival on the following day featured stages for traditional performances by Guizhou's ethnic groups, including the Miao, Dong, Sui, Yi, Gelao, and Bouyei people.
The carnival highlighted ethnic cuisine, techniques, and souvenirs, with a block showcasing long table banquets, public classes for experiencing intangible cultural heritage, and folk culture and customs shops.
It also featured an ethnic intangible cultural heritage entertainment square, hosting activities such as bamboo pole dances, Manchu Galaha, pitch-pot games, stilt walking, and cockfighting.
