Guiyang's tourism takes off during break

The tourism market in Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – experienced strong demand and safe conditions during the recent Spring Festival.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, most people chose to stay at home, which saw Guizhou's tourism boom.

As of Feb 17, the number of tourists in the main scenic spots during the Spring Festival holiday reportedly numbered among the many thousands. Preliminary statistics showed that Tianhetan scenic spot recorded 100,000 visits, while Qingyan Ancient Town received 98,000 visits during the break and Qingzhen's Time Guizhou scenic spot played host to 57,000 visitors.

In addition, colorful tourism activities were held to spice up the public's life. A series of light shows, temple fairs, online learning activities and online dramas were all organized.

To ensure the safety of the holiday, Guiyang carried out a number of measures. The Guiyang bureau of culture and tourism arranged for special personnel to be on duty, so that any emergencies were dealt with promptly. As of noon on the last day of the holiday, the bureau had received no accident reports concerning tourists and there had been zero complaints.

Residents are still being encouraged to avoid traveling unless necessary. When travelling, visitors need to scan the QR health code, have their body temperature taken, wear face masks and keep at least one meter away from others.

In addition, the maximum number of visitors in Guizhou's scenic spots is not allowed to exceed 75 percent of capacity.

For hotels and recreation places, the work of disinfection, cleaning and emergency disposal shall be checked strictly. Business and on-the-spot performances get approval suspended temporarily to prevent spreading the epidemic. Media platforms are also utilized to spread more information about the epidemic during the festival.

A special work team was formed to investigate the prevention and control among crucial enterprises and major scenic spots in Guiyang and Guian New Area.

Those measures have played a great role in safe production and smooth tourism market.
