Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, established its first foreign-language club for the tourism industry on Feb 5 and successfully held the club's first English corner activity on the same day.
The English corner invited senior English-speaking tour guides and examiners for English tourism certifications to offer English training sessions for 50 English-language enthusiasts. Participants were taught new English-learning methods and learned about Guizhou's demands for English-speaking tour guides.
The establishment of the club aims to train and improve tourism talents to better serve international visitors. So far, more than 100 English-language teachers, foreign-language tourism experts, examiners for English tourism certifications, English-speaking tour guides and English enthusiasts have joined the club.
In the future, the club will organize more language-learning activities and establish foreign-language teacher and student archives to provide targeted services.
Currently, less than 3 percent of Guizhou's tour guides speak foreign languages. The club wishes to train more language talents and help Guizhou become an international vacation destination.
