Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou Province, held a ceremony in its district of Guanshanhu to mark the opening of the 11th National Tea-drinking Day.
Zhang Xueli, deputy secretary-general of Guiyang municipal government, presided over the launch ceremony.
Wei Dingmei, vice-mayor of Guiyang, announced the opening of the 11th National Tea-drinking Day.
She stressed that Guiyang will make an intensified effort to build the self-developed cultural brand titled "Colorful Guizhou and Fragrant Tea of Guizhou," leverage its cultural influence and as a capital city lead the development of surrounding areas in a drive to facilitate the growth of local tea industries.
Wei said the city will assist tea growers in a market expansion integrated with Guiyang's cultural essence so that the entire area will become a popular international tourist destination.
Guiyang Municipal Tea Culture Research Institute invited several professionals to give lectures on tea-related knowledge and scientific methods in the preparation of tea, offered free tea for drinking, exhibited tea products and cultural commodities, and gave tea sets as well as handbooks to passers-by.
