Groundbreaking took place on Aug 4 of the R&D center for the CASIC Jiangnan intelligent manufacturing cluster, a major project in Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone – located in Guiyang, capital of China's Southwest Guizhou province.
The groundbreaking ceremony in GETDZ on the day marked the official start of one of the major construction projects for Guizhou province and the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, or CASIC.
Focusing on the construction of three platforms – for an intelligent manufacturing platform, R&D innovation and industry collaboration – the project will build a number of intelligent manufacturing demonstration production lines, workshops and factories.
These are expected to stimulate the development of related industries and help Guizhou's overall advanced industrialization.
With a total investment of 4.4 billion yuan ($678.6 million), the project will be developed in two phases.
The first phase, worth over 2 billion yuan, has a construction area of about 240,000 square meters. It will involve R&D buildings, production plants, warehousing and logistics buildings, as well as power and residential facilities.
The second phase will focus on developing production lines for special industry robots, new energy powertrains and intelligent power energy systems – as well as improving the capabilities of various basic components industries.
After fully completed, the facility is projected to achieve an annual output value of 20 billion yuan.
