The 2020 High-level Talents Cooperation and Exchange Conference was held on July 25 in Guiyang -- capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – with the theme: "Gathering Talents, Promoting Development", according to local media reports.
Sponsored by the office of the Guizhou Provincial People's Government in Beijing and the Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone, or the GETDZ in Guiyang, the conference was divided into two sections.
One featured in-depth visits to companies and a conference, attracting the participation of more than 300 attendees including representatives from relevant departments and bureaus, universities, experts and scholars and entrepreneurs, as well as potential recruits with master's degrees or doctorates from more than 80 domestic and international universities.
According to GETDZ officials, a Guizhou postgraduates service station was unveiled at the conference. It will be established in the GETDZ, aiming to recruit more top people for local companies and provide HR and other recruiting support for the zone.
At the same time, 30 top flight postgraduates with master's degrees or doctorates were appointed as campus ambassadors for recruitment and 12 people with doctorates signed contracts with employers on site.
According to local officials, due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the employment situation for college graduates is grim. They added that because of its healthy economic and social development, the province is still looking for people of a high caliber to come and work there.
The organizers said the conference was an initiative designed to boost the employment and entrepreneurship of college graduates, which is of great significance to help Guizhou win the battle against poverty and to promote the high-quality development of both the economy and society.
