Authorities of Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone (GETDZ) and Ziyun county in Southwest China's Guizhou province, signed a cooperation agreement on May 12 to set up special workshops for helping poverty-stricken people from the county.

According to the agreement, the GETDZ will encourage the employment units and entrepreneurial bases in the zone to increase the employment of poverty-stricken people in Ziyun county.

Zone officials said that resident enterprises that employ more than 10 poverty-stricken laborers from Ziyun county in stable work -- as well as companies that employ the laborers for more than three months -- will be designated as "GETDZ's demonstration firms for poverty alleviation" and will be awarded with corresponding funds.

According to the preliminary plan, the GETDZ will initially establish special poverty-alleviation workshops in eight companies to meet the labor demand of them. It will provide more than 300 job positions in total and the types of jobs will be in manufacturing, the services industry, property and other fields.

At the same time, Ziyun county will conduct in-depth investigations into poverty-stricken labor for the whole county and focus on helping them to work at these workshops for employment.

At the signing ceremony, in addition to the establishment of the special workshops, the two sides also reached an agreement on labor input and other aspects.

In order to ensure that the agreement is fulfilled as scheduled, both sides will establish a full-time organization for assistance and cooperation.

It will also establish a joint meeting system for assistance and both sides will discuss the work ideas of poverty alleviation through employment, determine major assistance projects and study and solve key problems.
