The Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone (GETDZ) in Guiyang city -- capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- launched this year's first vocational skills training for poverty-stricken people recently, according to GETDZ officials.
They said it launched the training in Ziyun county on April 27, where 60 registered indigent members of the labor force participated.
According to local media reports, the training uses both the classroom and field practice.
The main content of the classroom training included fruit tree and vegetable planting technology, pest control technology, agricultural product quality and safety knowledge, agricultural and rural policies.
In the field practice, the main purpose was to teach students to master the practical planting methods for fruit trees and vegetables.
Officials said the 60 participants will have 15 days of training.
At the same time, in order to encourage the poor labor force of Ziyun county to actively participate in the training, the GETDZ issued a living allowance.
This amounted to a standard 40 yuan ($5.66) subsidy per person per day, while at the same time it is subsidizing the training institutions to the tune 200 yuan per person.
The vocational skills training course carried out by the zone aims to help the employment of the poverty-stricken labor force in Ziyun county and contribute to alleviating their condition.
