Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Guiyang HIDZ) in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has racked up a list of positive achievements in implementing the innovation-driven development strategy.
Currently, Guiyang HIDZ has cultivated 355 national high-tech enterprises, accounting for 26.6 percent of the city's total and 17.6 percent of the province. It has also nurtured 42 provincial-level "specialized, refined, and new" enterprises, accounting for 33.3 percent of those in the city and 12.1 percent in the province.
It also has 12 national-level "specialized, refined, and new" "little giant" enterprises, accounting for 33.3 percent of the city's total and 17.1 percent in the province.
Guiyang HIZDZ has gathered 281 research and development institutions and platforms, including 32 at the national level and 91 at the provincial level. It's also the home to two national key laboratories, three national engineering technology research centers, and six national enterprise technology centers.
As a leading innovation hub of the province, Guiyang HIDZ is closely tied to the region's generous scientific and technological expenditure.
In 2022, large-scale industrial enterprises in Guiyang HIDZ spent over 5 percent on R&D, far higher than the national average for high-tech manufacturing industries (1.41 percent) and above the provincial average for high-tech manufacturing industries (3.75 percent).
The number of enterprises engaged in R&D activities reached 76.4 percent, or 2.8 times the overall level of Guiyang city.
