Pingtang Bridge, constructed in a mountainous area of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was recently granted the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize (National Prime-quality Project), making it the only project in Guizhou to obtain the honor, according to an announcement by the China Construction Industry Association.

Established in 1987, the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize is the highest honor in recognition of engineering quality in China's construction industry.

The prize is guided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and selected by the China Construction Industry Association.

It is granted every two years; and the selected objects are all kinds of new or expanded construction projects that have been completed and put into use in China.

Pingtang Bridge was designed by PowerChina Guiyang Engineering Corporation Limited, based in Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou.

The famed Pingtang Bridge, built in 2016 and completed in 2019, is a colossal cable-supported viaduct with a span of 2,135 meters.

It is known for combining strength and beauty, and is a shining example of a canyon bridge construction that integrates the cultural elements of Guizhou ethnic minorities into the design of the bridge tower, forming a dynamic overall shape.

In addition, the service area supporting Pingtang Bridge has created hundreds of jobs, which not only provides high-quality traffic services for passengers, but also promotes local economic development.

The construction of the Pingtang Bridge has shortened the cross-strait travel time from 50 minutes to 2 minutes.

Pingtang Bridge has previously won three international awards, namely the IABSE Award for Infrastructure in 2022, the 2021 FIDIC Excellence Award, and the 38th Gustavs Lindesar Prize in 2020, which is the "Nobel Prize" in bridge building.
