The 2020 annual review of Torch statistical data for Southwest China's Guizhou province was held in the Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, or Guiyang HIDZ – located in Guiyang city, Guizhou's provincial capital – on June 2-4.
The Torch Program – a plan to develop hi-tech industries in China – was approved by the State Council in 1988. It marked the start of reforms to facilitate the combination of industry and technology by the market system.
Representatives from 73 provincial and municipal science and technology departments and national high-tech zones from across the country attended the Guizhou event in June, to exchange statistical work and review the statistical data.
Torch statistics provide a quantitative and comprehensive investigation of the state of the country's high-tech industrialization and the process is understood to be an important means to understand, assess and track the development of China's high-tech industrialization.
As a platform for the evaluation of national high-tech zones, the results of Torch statistical data are said to provide important support for macro management and scientific decision-making.
The setting up of the review branch in the Guiyang HIDZ was conducted with the support of the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center for the zone.
Plans are for the zone in the future to push forward with its regional economic development, innovation and opening-up.
Guiyang HIDZ officials said it will strive to develop into an innovation-driven development demonstration zone and a high-quality development pilot zone in the province.
