Calls were made at a major conference recently – in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- for the region's top minds to help clear the way forwards after the novel coronavirus is fully defeated for a post-pandemic recovery, local officials said.

The discussions were made at the Innovation China-First Sci-tech Innovation Conference for Doctoral-level Talents (Guizhou), which convened in the Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone on Aug 8.

At the venue of the conference -- the Global Guizhou Doctoral Talent Club -- more than 40 people with doctorates discussed how to build and tap doctorate talent pool, to attract high-end resources and projects and facilitate the post-epidemic economy.

Prior to the event, club members visited the city of Shenzhen in southeastern China, the national capital Beijing and other places and forged a consensus that a doctoral talent alliance should be created.

They agreed to integrate various resources and to establish a global doctoral talent platform, as well as to commercialize research projects led by these top minds.

Paving the way for this was the establishment in April of the Exchange Center of Doctoral Experts from Beijing, Shenzhen and Guizhou.

To prepare for the Aug 8 conference, the center established communications with the Chinese Family Education Instructor project leadership group from the psychology branch of the China Life Science Society, the China & USA Silicon Valley Development Association and the Shenzhen (Futian District) Doctoral Talent Association.

It also obtained support from 30 international and Chinese doctoral talent liaison, officials said.

A seminar was held at the same time with the theme of mobilizing the collective wisdom of international doctoral talent to promote post-epidemic economic development.

Participants in the seminar shared their insights on the topic, agreeing that revitalization of the country needed each one of them and their colleagues to join forces and work together.

At the seminar, it was deemed of great significance to build a "super doctoral resource think tank" that could harness outstanding brains to support the post-pandemic economic recovery.

Officials said all the events were held under the auspices of the Guizhou Association for Science and Technology.
