A high-tech talent town -- the first such project integrating cutting-edge industry with a city -- is to be established in Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone in China's Southwest Guizhou province, according to Guiyang HIDZ officials.

They said the talent town will also be a key project of Shubo Avenue -- a 20-kilometer-long avenue being built in Guiyang city that will showcase the world's latest big data achievements and future digital cities. By the end of 2020, the avenue's core district is expected to be completed and it is seen as becoming the center of Guiyang's big data projects.

Officials said the first phase of the high-tech talent town project is planned to be completed in the second half of 2021.

The project was officially started on June 17, 2019, with a total investment of about 5 billion yuan ($706 million) covering a planned area of just under 23 hectares. Officials said it will mainly serve all kinds of top professionals in Shawen Ecological Scientific Park in the Guiyang HIDZ -- and enable talent to invest and start businesses in the zone and take root and live there.

Centering on the concept of digital twin and smart city, the high-tech talent town will build a comprehensive smart city with a complete industry supply chain, officials said.

It will integrate apartments and other housing, kindergartens, company headquarters, a talent incubation center, talent policy fulfillment center, primary school and other support facilities.
