A nifty WeChat mini app developed by a company located in the Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Guiyang HIDZ) -- in the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- went into use on Feb 14 and it could have a key impact on controlling the spread of the novel coronavirus, according to Guiyang HIDZ officials.

Due to the need for stringent supervision of population flows -- which has become critical to preventing the further spread of the disease -- the mini app is mainly being used as a pass for small checkpoints and temporary intersections set up in each community of Guizhou.

People entering or leaving the community scan the QR code with their own WeChat. Community staff can obtain the personal information of the verified personnel, recording the name, ID card number and telephone number -- providing dynamic data for epidemic control.

In addition, the data collected by the applet can be transmitted to the internal network of public security in real time.

This will check the information on the personnel ID card and provide feedback on their dynamic status. If the someone has become a potential infected case, through real-time big data analysis of the public security network, the pass will be rendered invalid in time.
