Wudang offers free summer care programs for children

On July 20, Wudang district in Guiyang launched free summer care programs to help working parents ensure their children enjoy a safe and enriching holiday.

At the Longguang Community summer program, university student volunteers help children with their homework in the morning, while afternoons are filled with calligraphy, painting, board games, and movie screenings.

"The summer program is just downstairs from my home. After finishing my homework, I can play billiards, build with blocks, and have fun with my friends," said Liu Jintong, a local primary school student.

To ensure children in rural areas enjoy the same quality summer services, Wudang has expanded the program to villages. In Machang village, Yangchang town, the local Children's Home installed a large inflatable swimming pool that is free for local children to use, providing a safe place to cool off during the summer and helping reduce the risks associated with swimming in rivers.

The Children's Home also offers homework tutoring, reading and art activities. "I come here every day," said 10-year-old Liu Yingmengjie from Machang village. "Teachers help us with our homework, and I can read books, play on the slide, and swim. It's been a really fun and fulfilling summer."
