For years, children from scattered villages in Xiaba town, Wudang district of Guiyang, had to travel long distances along mountain roads to reach school, leaving many parents concerned about their safety. Since 2022, State-owned Guiyang Public Transport Co has operated three dedicated school bus routes, providing transportation for students from six villages.

Every morning at 7 am, children line up at designated bus stops to start their school day. Accompanying them is Peng Shengyu, a traffic safety assistant in Xiaba town, who has been riding with students on the dedicated buses since the service began.

"At every stop, we check the number of students boarding," Peng said. "If a child hasn't arrived, we contact their parents immediately to find out why. If they're on the way, we'll wait to make sure no one is left behind."

For student Wu Hualong, the new service has made daily travel much easier. "In the past, I either took a regular bus by myself or my parents had to drive me to school," he said. "Now the school bus is much more convenient."

In addition to on-board supervision throughout each journey, traffic police also distribute road safety brochures at the school gate to students and parents, raising safe travel awareness.
