Guiyang's Wudang district hosted the launch ceremony for Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area's "Celebrate Chinese New Year in the Countryside" campaign on Jan 18, drawing residents and tourists to experience rural Spring Festival customs.
Held in Wanggang village, the event combined folk performances with cultural activities and rural tourism promotion, showcasing the charm of countryside celebrations and the progress made by rural vitalization efforts.
Many visitors joined the 8-kilometer hike through local scenic spots before gathering at Tonggu Square for the opening ceremony.
Traditional activities, including dragon dances, Spring Festival couplet writing, rice cake-making, and tofu grinding, created a lively festive atmosphere. Intangible cultural heritage crafts such as Fengxiang dyeing were also featured alongside local food markets and cultural performances.
One of the highlights was the traditional "Paotang Banquet", offering visitors an authentic taste of Guizhou countryside cuisine.
The event aimed to blend cultural heritage, tourism, and rural development while giving visitors a chance to experience an authentic Chinese New Year celebration in the countryside.
