Wudang district in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has seen a remarkable rise in economic might during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period (2021-25), with its total economic output increasing from 17.25 billion yuan ($2.44 billion) in 2020 to 25.11 billion yuan in 2024.
Over the past five years, the district has focused on developing the pharmaceutical and electronic information manufacturing industries, attracting leading enterprises such as Sinopharm and Huilun Pharmaceuticals. The district’s pharmaceutical output now accounts for 25 percent of the Guizhou provincial total and 42.3 percent of the Guiyang municipal total.
Wudang has also advanced the integrated development of culture, business, and tourism, receiving an annual average of 7.77 million visitors and generating 7.68 billion yuan in tourism revenue. New commercial landmarks such as the Xintiandi Metro Commercial Street and Bei'ya Road night economy block have emerged, while destinations like "Pianpo Original Town" have been designated as Guizhou provincial-level tourism resorts.
The district has been listed among China's "Top 100 Green Development Districts" for two consecutive years. The Wudang Economic Development Zone has also been approved as a national-level green industrial park, while three enterprises have been recognized as national-level green factories. The district's under-forest economy has reached an output of 2 billion yuan, with the green economy accounting for over 50 percent of its GDP.
Wudang district continues to enhance people's well-being, providing 30,233 new jobs for employees, and issuing a total of 44.69 million yuan in social assistance and elderly care subsidies.
