Wudang district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has tapped into local resources and accelerated development of the sojourn industry, the income from which is expected to exceed 22 million yuan ($3.02 million), according to a press conference held on Sept 11.

Since the start of summer, Wudang has held 21 tourism activities focusing on sports, culture, agriculture, study tours, and commerce, and launched 10 tourist boutique routes.

Some of the tourism products featuring camping and study tours have become new engines driving the district's development of tourism.

Meanwhile, Wudang has been turning rural idle farmhouses into homestays. Through the industrial development model coordinated by the government, market-led, village-level operation, travel agencies and online travel agent platforms, the combination of residential accommodation with health care, ethnic customs, and intangible cultural heritage experience has attracted tourists from cities such as Chongqing, Changsha, Wuhan, Nanchang to live in Wudang to escape the summer.

To date, there are more than 2,900 rooms available for tourists looking to escape the summer in the district, with a maximum capacity of about 5,000 people. During summer, more than 6,000 people sojourned in Wudang.

Moving forward, Wudang will focus on building a demonstration area of travel and life with Yangchang town as the center and including Baiyi town, Xinpu township, Dongfeng town and Pianpo township to boost the development of tourism.
