1st Matou Village Grape Festival kicks off

The 1st Matou Village Grape Festival kicked off in Wudang district on Aug 25 and lasted for three days.

Visitors were offered a 50-percent discount used for picking and purchasing local grapes, and the local farmhouse gave visitors a 20-percent discount.

Chen Zhengyong, secretary of the Party branch of Matou village and a grape grower, said that he sold over 200 kilograms of grapes worth more than 3,000 yuan ($411.30) on Aug 25.

According to Chen, Matou village has a good natural environment. Local soil and weather are suitable for growing fruits, including grapes, watermelons and apples.

This year, the village has grown 1,100 mu (73.33 hectares) of grapes, the annual yield of which is expected to come at 60-70 metric tons.

The grape festival not only sold grapes but also featured various performances, such as music shows, fashion shows, and games.

In recent years, the village has made every effort to protect the local environment and promote rural tourism. It integrates ecological agriculture, sightseeing, and rural life-experience.
