Wudang district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has protected and expanded its local varieties and wild germplasm resources, while also tracking and evaluating the risks of major grain crop varieties in recent years, so as to promote the high-quality development of local agriculture.

Wudang has integrated high-standard farmland projects, introduced breeding enterprises, and has built long-term contractual cooperative relations between breeding enterprises, cooperatives and farmers. It has also strengthened the infrastructure construction of its breeding bases, built modern seed processing centers and distribution systems, and improved its seed production, processing capacity, and services.

Last year, more than 43 hectares were set aside for corn breeding bases, and a major crop test and display platform base covering 4 hectares was built in the district.

Wudang has comprehensively collected and purified local varieties and wild germplasm resources, as well as established several germplasm resource gardens and breeding bases to provide a variety of plants to choose from to optimize the local agricultural industrial structure.

In the past year, the district built a germplasm resource garden covering 10 hectares in Xiaba town, collected more than 300 local varieties of germplasm, and introduced over 100 new and excellent varieties of succulents.

The district has also promoted good seed varieties and agricultural technologies by carrying out experiments, demonstrations and promotions.

Wudang has completed the compound planting and cultivation of rice, corn and soybeans. Additionally, it has done seven risk tracking evaluations and display tests on 96 corn varieties, and has built one succulent plant and breeding demonstration base.
