Wudang district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, will construct 20,000 mu (1,333.33 hectares) of high-standard farmland in 2022.

The move is intended to improve the utilization efficiency of existing cultivated land resources, the output efficiency of land and the level of agricultural equipment.

According to Wang Hengying, head of the agricultural construction section of the Wudang agriculture and rural affairs bureau, high-standard farmland refers to flat land with concentrated contiguous areas, adequate facilities, fertile soil, healthy ecosystems and strong disaster resistance.

Such land is compatible with modern agricultural production and management methods and has a high and stable yield.

The construction of high-standard farmland is an effective way to solve the problems of shallow plow layers, soil compaction, soil acidification, salinization, soil degradation and inconvenient farming.

As one of the main urban areas in Guiyang, Wudang has a vast rural area and strong advantages in cultivated land resources.

The construction of high-standard farmland is a reflection of Wudang's efforts to prioritize ecological and green development.

Wudang already constructed 15,000 mu of high-standard farmland this year in Shuitian town, Xinpu Bouyei township, Xinchang town and Baiyi town, bringing the total area of high-standard farmland in Wudang to 126,400 mu.
