Wudang district in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, will invest around 50 million yuan ($7.50 million) to upgrade its farmland water infrastructure and improve irrigation efficiency.
According to the newly-formulated "suggestion report on the establishment of supporting facilities and water-saving renovation projects in Wudang district's irrigation areas," 20 irrigation areas in the jurisdiction of Wudang will be included in the upgrade.
They involve one township and five towns and have a total area of 53,500 mu (3,566.67 hectares).

The agricultural irrigation and water conservancy project facilities in Wudang district have been being built in batches for many years.
Some projects have aged or been seriously damaged, and with low original construction quality, they can no longer meet water-saving irrigation requirements for agricultural production in modern irrigation areas.
Supporting facilities must be built and existing infrastructure in the irrigation area must be more water-efficient.
The upgrading project is scheduled to last two to three years, according to the plan.
