Wudang pushes agricultural modernization

In Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, Wudang district has made great efforts in promoting the development of agricultural modernization.

The district is using fragmented land to develop modern agriculture. It implements land fragmentation treatment of bazi (partial plain in mountainous or hilly areas) along roads below 15 degrees and larger than 300 mu (20 hectares), transforming them into high-standard arable lands with fertile soil, no pollution and high productivity. This reclaimed agricultural land is also suitable for machine cultivation.

The district is developing an agricultural industry development demonstration belt with Wudang characteristics that can be extended and replicated in other areas.

In October of last year, Wudang officially launched the high-standard mountain farmland construction project, which involves 12 townships and villages, including Xinchang, Yangchang and Baiyi, with a construction scale of 22,980 mu. The first phase of the project covers an area of 2,037 mu, with a total investment of about 250 million yuan ($38.6 million).

The district has adopted a mechanism of "companies + cooperatives + peasant households", which allows leasing farmland to companies. Farmers can receive both land transfer fees and dividends. Also, they can work for these companies to increase their incomes.

Contributing to rural revitalization, Wudang is pushing modern agricultural development and helping farmers earn more money.
