Wudang district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has fashioned a successful development template for its health industry featuring medicine, medical treatment, health preservation and eldercare.

With the goal of industrialization, increased scale and marketization, the district has pushed to expand the total product volumes produced by the pharmaceutical industry.

It has also pushed to expand key pharmaceutical companies and brand products and enhance the innovative capabilities of pharmaceuticals companies.

At present, the district has 12 pharmaceuticals enterprises above a designated size -- with annual revenue of 20 million yuan ($2.8 million) or more -- of which three are among the province's leading five companies and are the province's key pharmaceuticals groups.

The district has also actively introduced various medical institutions to improve the medical service capacity of the district, further alleviating the problems of difficult and expensive medical treatment for the public.

It is now home to 153 medical and health institutions with 2,141 beds and the consultation rate in the district is over 90 percent. It's estimated that by 2021, the number of beds in medical institutions in the district will top 3,500.

Wudang district is speeding up the comprehensive development of health-associated businesses such as hot springs, health care, specialty foods, Chinese medicinal plants, rural tourism and sports activities.

The hot spring treatment centers led by Fengyegu Hot Spring, Happy Valley Hot Spring and Zhenhua Wanxiang Hot Spring in the district are booming.

In addition, the eldercare system in the district is continuously improving. The district now has 58 eldercare institutions with 2,917 beds. It is estimated that by 2021, the number of beds will exceed 4,500.
