A meeting of researchers of the Bouyei ethnic group's costume culture was held on Nov 8 in Xiaba town of Wudang district in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Attendees conducted in-depth discussions and learned about the history, characteristics, types, practicality, inheritance, protection, publicity and development of Bouyei costumes in Wudang district.

Experts said that the Bouyei costumes made and collected by the Guizhou Province Minority Traditional Handicraft Training Institute – opened by craftsman Wang Liqi – have significantly contributed to the inheritance and development of Bouyei costume culture.

The clothing of the Bouyei people is mainly black, blue and white. The clothing patterns reflect the Bouyei people's commitment to protecting the natural world and caring for the environment.

The experts suggested that residents make exquisite clothing combing traditional Bouyei culture with the aesthetic orientation of modern young people to help them increase their incomes through traditional national crafts.
