The groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of the Guizhou National Fitness Center was held in Guizhou Shuanglong Airport Economic Zone, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Jan 11.

The first phase of the center, with a total construction area of 36,514.99 square meters, will include a basketball hall, comprehensive hall, and tennis hall, as well as supporting outdoor activity venues such as a standard sports field with a 400-meter circular runway and three outdoor basketball courts.
The second phase of the center will include facilities such as swimming pools, athlete apartments, dry snow ski resorts and supporting commercial complexes, and has a planned investment of more than 800 million yuan ($119.42 million).
After completion, the center will become a provincial-level public welfare compound modern sports service facility with national fitness as the focus and integrating sports, tourism, leisure, health preservation and other functions.
