The Guizhou Shuanglong Airport Economic Zone located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is making efforts to build itself into a modern airport new city.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), the Shuanglong economic zone introduced 85 key projects involving mid-to-high-end smart manufacturing and consumption, the headquarters economy, aviation logistics, and big data.
During this period, the total output value of industries above designated size reached 49.8 billion yuan ($7.69 billion), while the total added value of such industries came in at 19.6 billion yuan.
Investment in fixed assets was valued at 160.7 billion yuan, while the actual investment in place amounted to 86 billion yuan.
Revolving around the Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport, the economic zone has continuously worked to optimize the business environment and developed the airport economy.
It has also accelerated the third-phase expansion of the airport, smart ports, logistics hubs, and other projects, and helped open new routes.
Since 2015, the economic zone has invested 4.26 billion yuan into a series of water environment improvement projects.
The Longdongbao sewage treatment plant, with a processing capacity of 50,000 metric tons per day, and the Dapo sewage treatment plant, with a processing capacity of 5,000 tons per day, have been completed and begun operating.
In addition, the installation of a sewage interception pipeline network with a length of 50.65 kilometers has been built, collecting 100 percent of sewage in the core area.
The zone has also carried out key tasks such as investigations into and remedial work at small, poorly managed, and heavily polluting enterprises, and has restricted the use of highly-polluting fuels.
As a result, the air quality compliance rate in the zone has remained at more than 96 percent for many years.
