Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport in Southwest China's Guizhou province passed the international health regulations core capacity assessment of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the General Administration of Customs on Nov 25, becoming the second one to pass the assessment in Southwest China.
The assessment aims to test airports' capacities in responding to public health emergencies, avoiding unnecessary interference of public health risks on international transportation and trade, as well as preventing, resisting, and controlling the international spread of diseases.
With an annual increase of 30 percent in passenger volume, Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport strives to enhance the capacities of public health control to reduce the risks of foreign epidemic diseases and pest invasion.
The entry ports are equipped with infrared ray temperature monitors and luggage computed tomography (CT) examination connected with a smart health quarantine system to compare the entry information with published epidemic information at home and abroad to achieve accurate early warning of potential health risks.
Guiyang customs also established a professional team to improve the joint prevention and control system of public health emergencies by cooperating with other government departments to achieve an efficient emergency rescue process.
In 2019, Guiyang customs has completed infectious disease surveillance of 9,663 people, 90 of which were diagnosed, including Guizhou's first cases of imported dengue fever and mixed infection of plasmodium falciparum and plasmodium ovale.
