Industry-led talent development boosts skilled workforce in Guiyang

Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone has adopted an industry-oriented approach to talent development in recent years, fostering close cooperation among the government, schools, and enterprises to cultivate and retain skilled workers.

At the welding workshop of Chery Wanda Guizhou Bus Co in Xiaomeng Industrial Park, workers are busy assembling the steel frames of customized buses. Unlike mass-produced passenger vehicles, customized bus manufacturing relies heavily on highly skilled workers, making talent a key driver of the company's growth.

Even before Chery Wanda began operations in Guiyang, Guiyang Vocational and Technical College had launched an automotive manufacturing program and partnered with the company to establish a training base. Chery Wanda provided training facilities, equipment, and technical mentors, while the college tailored its curriculum to meet industry needs, ensuring close alignment between talent development and industrial growth.

Meanwhile, the development zone introduced supportive policies and innovative mechanisms to foster deeper collaboration among government, schools, and enterprises.

Chery Wanda has continued to improve its compensation, benefits, and talent development systems, while the college has advanced work-integrated learning reforms and promoted a culture that values craftsmanship and vocational skills. Since 2022, the retention rate of students from vocational colleges undertaking internships at the company has reached 100 percent, significantly strengthening its skilled workforce.
