A livestreaming event for imported commodities was held in Guiyang Free Trade Zone (FTZ) -- in Southwest China's Guizhou province -- to stimulate spending in the cross-border e-commerce market during the novel coronavirus outbreak, according to Guiyang FTZ officials.
Officials said that it was the first livestreaming activity held at the special supervision area for customs in the province. A total of 378 orders were placed through the livestreaming event, with sales exceeding 427,000 yuan ($60,304).
"The activity allows consumers to buy commodities at a lower price," said Yao Kanyun, general manager of Guizhou Free Trade Online Import and Export Co.
"It also allows consumers to experience the purchase and shipment process for cross-border e-commerce commodities through livestreaming," he added.
According to Yao, the most popular product during the activity was infant milk powder imported from New Zealand. "For 140 yuan, customers can get a can of infant milk powder imported from New Zealand through livestreaming, 50 percent lower than the market level," Yao said.
Yan Shucheng, a member of the Party Working Committee of the Guiyang FTZ, said that the zone will take advantage of cross-border e-commerce to assist some 20 activities -- such as the first 2020 Guiyang Import and Export Online Fair and the bonded online retail promotion activity.
"Based on cross-border e-commerce, the Guiyang FTZ will stimulate market vitality and promote the revitalization of business and trade," he added.
"In future, we plan to explore a new model of 'cross border e-commerce plus tourism' to help promote the import and export trade and cross-border e-commerce development of the province".
