Cross Cinema sees booming ticket sales in summer movie season

Yunyan district's Cross Cinema has welcomed a total of 140,000 moviegoers since the summer movie season kicked off on June 1, with total box office revenue exceeding 8 million yuan ($1.19 million).

Feng Zhipeng, a representative of Cross Cinema, said that the cinema has achieved steady growth in operation based on this summer's performance. Its box office saw a year-on-year increase of 15.6 percent, and the number of viewers rose by 25.6 percent year-on-year. The overall seat occupancy rate climbed from 13.2 percent in the 2025 summer season to 15.6 percent this year.

Three blockbusters, The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Crossing, have driven visitor numbers for the summer movie season, while the cinema's large screen and other projection facilities also proved a draw for moviegoers.

The cinema, which boasts what it describes as Asia's widest screen, recorded particularly strong sales for the historical film Crossing. The film grossed more than 1 million yuan at the venue, the highest total at any individual cinema in China, and drew more than 20,000 moviegoers.

The cinema has partnered with more than 20 nearby merchants. Moviegoers can enjoy discounts at these partner outlets by presenting their movie tickets.

The cinema will roll out more blockbusters, with continued efforts to improve services and projection quality, aiming to promote the integration of film and tourism.
