Since the beginning of this year, Yunyan district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has achieved fruitful results in scientific and technological innovation.
Some 63 companies in the district have invested in R&D, 19 more than did so during the comparable period in 2022, marking a growth rate of 43.18 percent.
Their combined R&D investment stood at 933 million yuan ($129.52 million), up 61 million yuan year-on-year for a growth rate of 6.9 percent.
Meanwhile, the College of Big Data and Information Engineering at Guizhou University worked with the district to jointly establish the Electronic Information (Integrated Circuit) Industry Technology Innovation Center. The goal is to further promote the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements in the fields of big data and electronic information.
In the first half of 2023, the electronic information manufacturing industry in the district achieved a total output value of 840 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 30.43 percent.
During this period, 13 core technology projects at the district-level were approved, supported by 1.24 million yuan in funding.
The district has also given prominence to the construction of science and technology platforms. Yunyan is now home to one university science and technology park, three science and technology enterprise incubators, and four maker spaces.
In terms of scientific and technological funding, the district obtained support for 156 provincial-level science and technology projects from January to July worth 44.99 million yuan, benefiting 65 enterprises, institutions, and scientific research institutes within its jurisdiction.
Yunyan has also strengthened its cooperation with national technology transfer centers to cultivate R&D talents, skilled talents, and advanced technical workers through targeted training and joint training. This year, two teams of high-level innovation and entrepreneurship talents have been introduced to the district.
