By seizing the opportunities presented by the recovery in the market, Yunyan district of Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has continued to tap the potential for local cultural tourism.
This year, the booming tourism industry has been riding the rebound in consumer spending.
In the first quarter, Yunyan received 5.62 million visits, a year-on-year growth of 10.64 percent, while total tourism revenue hit 7.72 billion yuan ($1.12 billion), up 18.81 percent.
To top it off, the income generated by travel leasing and business services surged by 30.42 percent year-on-year.
Since the start of the year, travel agencies in the district have shared resources with each other, launched overseas tourism ventures and attracted talent through recruitment and re-employment to prepare for the subsequent business development.
The first overseas flight that took place after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic was made on March 14 without any empty seats.
Business districts in Yunyan have also made efforts to stimulate consumer spending by launching multi-element and multi-form characteristic activities, combing cultural entertainment and shopping.
In January, Guiyang Impression City held an intangible cultural heritage craft activity featuring molten iron fireworks, attracting hordes of locals and tourists every day.
On March 11-19, Yunyan launched a city garden maze activity, integrating flower viewing, garden visits, food and animes.
These activities have not only wowed the tourists, but also raised Yunyan's profile online.
On March 17, more than 120 enterprises participated in a forum on the integration and development of culture, commerce, sports and tourism. This was held by the district government to jointly explore the path to integration and to encourage resource-sharing and cooperation among enterprises.
Moving forwards, plans are for Yunyan to lean into local tourism resources, actively organize and publicize cultural activities featuring traditional festivals and arts, as well as develop more creative products.
