Divided into prescribed routines and self-selected routines, the competition was scored based on the scoring rules for square dancing promulgated by the State Administration of Sports of China.
The ranking is determined according to the sum of the scores of the prescribed routines and the scores of the self-selected routines.
Zhang Xiaoting from the Yunyan district team said that the members of the team were all over 50 years old and came from all walks of life. They got together because of the competition.
"In order to uniform the movements, we often practiced until about 10 pm," Zhang said. "We hoped to dance well and beautifully, to stimulate the interest of others and to let more people join the square aerobics dance team."
