In 2021, Yunyan district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, focused on improving people's livelihoods and achieved impressive results.
The subsistence allowance standard was raised from 695 yuan ($103.45) per month to 705 yuan per month in 2021.
Throughout the year, the district allocated 144 million yuan for people's livelihood security, and the efficiency of subsistence allowance approval has increased by about 10 percent.
In addition, a total of about 1.03 million yuan in living expenses was given to orphans and minors who have no one to take care of them.
The district also built 36 elderly care service institutions of various types in 2021, including 13 nursing homes and 23 daycare centers.
There are currently 1,036 elderly people living in elderly care institutions in Yunyan. Elderly care institutions and home-based community elderly care service centers now cover nearly 90 percent of sub-districts and towns in the district.
The district was named the Guizhou province demonstration gathering area for companies catering to the elderly, and the demonstration county for the integration of medical care and nursing in Guizhou province.
In addition, the neighborhood committees of 162 villages and communities in the district completed their general elections as scheduled.
