Recently, Beijing-based market research company CCID Consulting released a list of the top 100 districts in terms of innovation, and Yunyan district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, ranked 92nd.
It is the only district in Guizhou to be included on the list.

The evaluation assessed the innovative capabilities of 906 districts in prefecture-level cities across the country based on four first-level indicators, namely innovation ecology, innovation power, innovation subject, and innovation achievements, and 16 second-level indicators such as GDP, the proportion of science and education expenditures in total fiscal expenditures, and the number of national high-tech enterprises.
In recent years, Yunyan has treated innovation as an important driving force behind its economic and social development and has rolled out 10 policies for scientific and technological innovation.
The district has also encouraged key enterprises in the region to carry out high-end products and key technological transformations, promoting the transformation and upgrading of traditional advantageous manufacturing industries.
In 2021, district-level financial and technological investment in the district amounted to 185 million yuan ($29.04 million).
From 2018 to 2021, the district implemented a total of 75 district-level science and technology projects, invested 16.87 million yuan in district-level applied technology research and development, and encouraged enterprises to invest 120.08 million yuan.
The district also cultivated 107 new national high-tech enterprises and completed the evaluation of 85 national technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises in the same period.
In addition, Yunyan has built 33 provincial innovation platforms such as key laboratories, academician workstations and research centers, one provincial demonstration base for the combination of production, education and research, and two provincial demonstration bases for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Moving forward, the district will further pursue an innovation-driven development strategy, and accelerate and improve its innovation system with a focus on the electronic information manufacturing and biotech industries.
