The Yunyan district of Guiyang -- capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- is renovating its shantytowns and old residential communities, in an effort to improve its residential environment.

Reports are that the district's Xichukou area was selected as a pilot area for an urban renovation and upgrading project.

It is understood that the project has basically been completed, bringing a great change to 840 households living in the area.

Most of the buildings in the Xichukou area were built before 2000, and problems have subsequently emerged such as insufficient support facilities, aging facilities and a dirty and poor environment, among others.

Renovations mainly included improving the architectural style, as well as roads, pipe networks, security and firefighting facilities, public facilities, the overall environment and public support infrastructure.

The previously dilapidated buildings have now reportedly disappeared.

The exterior walls have been revamped and the internal environment and the pipe network have been renovated.

In addition, intelligent sanitation trash bins have been set up and intelligent charging piles installed, creating a completely new look for the area.
