A fun walk was held on June 5 at Qianlingshan Park -- in the Yunyan district of Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- to mark 2021 World Environment Day, which fell on the day.
Organizers said the purpose was not only to have a ball, but to advocate a healthy lifestyle to the public and promote eco-friendly development.
Part of the district's activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the event attracted the participation of nearly 10,000 walkers.
The fun walk, with a time limit of five hours, set no start or end points, no routes and no target results. Anyone who walked 8,000 steps within the time -- according to WeChat sports records -- was in line to receive a small gift.
The organizers said that was to encourage the public to use low-carbon and healthy travel.
They also set up a low-carbon life publicity display area and a waste recycling display area in the park, to advocate environmental protection.
