Yunyan district in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, plans to build 110 comprehensive service stations for outdoor workers. The service stations will be located in selected areas throughout the district, and 60 service stations have already been established.
The district's federation of trade unions began constructing service stations in June this year by integrating various social resources.
The service stations have a unified logo, a well-planned site layout, functional service facilities, a standardized management system and a map query function.
Ren Qun, deputy secretary of the Party working committee of Yanwu Street sub-district, stated that the service stations provide outdoor workers with hot water, first aid medical kits and microwave ovens to use. Each facility also boasts a toilet and shower room.
“We have now built six service stations, all of which are set up near government affairs halls, financial outlets, supermarkets, urban management and public security stations,” he added.
The service stations have been hailed as incredibly helpful to outdoor workers, allowing them to cool off on hot days, warm up on cold days and access drinking water when thirsty. The toilet and rest facilities and the stations' healthcare supplies are also popular among workers.
"My job is to walk along the streets and alleys to manage small vendors and motorcycles. I walk at least 10,000 steps a day," said Ouyang Heping, a 57-year-old urban patrol officer, better known as chengguan.
Before the launch of the service stations, he would often drink only one cup of water per day and would have to rest outside regardless of the weather. Now, he finally has a comfortable place to relax and access necessities such as water.
In the future, the district's federation of trade unions will provide more necessary materials and expand the coverage of the service stations to take care of even more outdoor workers.
