The new Liuguangmen water recycling plant and the Guiyi water recycling plant in Yunyan district of Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – started operating on June 30, according local officials.
The launch of the two water reclamation plants indicates that the improvement of ecological management around Nanming River has made significant progresses, officials said.
According to Li Fajun, deputy head of Yunyan, the district began construction of the two plants on Dec 26, 2017.
Located in Xinggui Road, the Guiyi recycling water plant covers an area of 11,400 square meters and involved a total investment of 751 million yuan ($106.95 million).
It mainly handles about 50,000 metric tons of daily sewage collected from the Chadian drain and the Yanwu drain.
The Liuguangmen recycling water plant, meanwhile, is located on the former site of the Guiyang People's Stadium.
The site covers 22,900 sq m and the new plant involved a total investment of 1.26 billion yuan. Officials said the plant treats 120,000 tons of sewage daily from the Shahe drain, Yunyan drain – as well as upstream sewage without entering into the Guiyi recycling water plant.
Officials said the two projects are the largest distributed water plants in Guiyang. They said they would not only open the way for the wider utilization of underground spaces to save land, but also provide creative ideas for urban environmental protection.
Using the projects as an opportunity, Yunyan district will also explore the functional area of Yanwu Street and construct the Liuguangmen cultural and sports complex, to further optimize urban support facilities and enhance the quality of life of residents, according to Yunyan deputy head Li Fajun.
