Updated: 2020-06-24

An awards ceremony for the eighth batch of intangible cultural heritage representative projects in Yunyan district in Guiyang -- capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- was held on June 12, according to local officials.

A total of nine projects won the honor granted by the Yunyan culture, sports, radio, television and tourism bureau.

They included a production technique for spicy chicken (Qianfeng), a traditional rice noodle (Liu Weilan), a flavored pepper sauce and embroidery by the Miao ethnic group.

Officials said that event is to further protect and inherit local intangible cultural heritage.

Under it, Yunyan administrative offices, cultural museums and sub-district offices consider the services of businesses engaged in intangible cultural heritage projects and the offices also help the applicants resolve practical difficulties.

Sub-district offices set up special ledgers for the projects within their jurisdiction and cooperate with cultural museums to examine each project.

Award candidates are required to show how they protect and inherit their intangible cultural heritage by training staff, establishing learning workshops and pursuing innovation of traditional skills.

Officials said that just as important, the inheritors need to tell the story of individual heritage and strive for its better development in the future.

The bureau also called on everyone to learn to collect data and register intellectual property rights, to enhance the overall awareness of the need to protect intangible cultural heritage.
